How To Fit Booties
Measure
Take a piece of paper and lay it under your dog's front paw. Lift your dog so all the weight is on that paw. Mark the width on the paper and measure it. Never assume that the size of dog will correspond to their boot size.
This will correspond to the sizing chart of the manufacturer. Do this also on the back paw as well. Back paws are a bit smaller.
Prep
When you get the boots, work them with your hands until they become more pliable.
Try them on
Try them on indoors and gradually increase the amount of time with each session. Make sure your dog gets their favorite treat for putting up with all of this.
Watch them dance but try not to laugh at them. Don't draw too much attention to their adjustment period.
Check for rubbing
Check the paws each time out to make sure that no hot spots are forming. Liner socks are a good investment to help the break in. Also check the strap and make sure the tension is correct. Snug not tight.
Get the right fit
The boot strap should fit snugly above the paw but below the dew claw and carpal pad. It should fit well front to back and side to side and bend properly at a 45 degree angle where the bend occurs naturally. Don't hesitate to exchange them if they do not fit properly!

Please pick up after your dog!
Ever wonder why some people think its ok to let their dog go anywhere and just move on without even attempting to dispose of it?
Rio and I do. There are trails and parks covered with the stuff. Particularly when its cold, people let their pet poop and run. If you are a dog owner and I am getting to you about this stuff, listen, its never too late to “do the right thing”. Dog poop and water systems don’t mix.
Biodegradable Poop Bags As the Spring thaw begins, it’s time to pick it up while its still frozen. But what to pick it up with. Don’t even think about using more plastic unless its biodegradable. Here are some statistics about those “recycled plastic bags”.
100 billion are dispensed to Americans
12 billion barrels of oil are used to produce them
1000 years to break down
Standard plastic bags don’t degrade, they photodegrade, which means they break down into even smaller pieces that enter the soil and water as well as the food chain, killing birds and marine animals by entagling them or clogging their intestines.
Let’s face it they have despoiled even the wild places on this planet. Use cloth bags when shopping and make sure that the bags you use to pick up your dog’s poop are truely green biodegradable bags.
This Earth Day do something for the environment and help pick up poop!

Just a Cinch Leash from Ruffwear- the best leash...

The best leash that I have ever owned is a Just a Cinch leash from Ruffwear.  Its a collar and leash all in one. By design it can be used as a correction collar by pulling upward. My Labs quit pulling on the walk using this leash. We had tried just about every device on the market. It seems to function as a conduit between human and dog. When the slip collar is relaxed. The dog seems to be more relaxed except when a cat is seen. Then it functions safely to hold back the charging dog or dogs in my case. Here are the features.
• 72″ Overall length
• 8.5″ Loop handle
• 10-millimeter rugged climbing rope with reflective strands woven in for excellent visibility
• 5-foot (1.5 meter) average length provides control while offering freedom
• Slip adjustment collar will fit virtually every size dog
• Friction tab prevents collar slip-offs and escapes
And here is what I really like about it. No more chasing a squirming dog around trying to hook a leash on the collar ring! That in itself is worth the price. For years I just looked at it but never tried it. Now walking the dog is easy and enjoyable.
